Kingsford Smith School (Recognised)

Congratulations to Kingsford Smith School for gaining Healthier Work Recognition!  Being a ‘super school’ here in the ACT, they have a large staffing unit of around 150 staff, therefore having an inclusive plan developed from staff feedback was imperative.  Champion Julie, put together a team of health and wellbeing champions from across the organisation to spread the word and to seek feedback from across different areas among the staff so that they could take into account all types of work that staff do.  They also took part in the ACT Online Health and Wellbeing Survey to get a baseline on data and seek out more feedback from staff on what they need to focus on, and also what they want to focus on in terms of their health.  Around 75% of staff filled out the survey which was a brilliant result and highlights the importance that staff place on their health and wellbeing in the workplace.  The plan came together and was rolled out for term 2 across the campus.  Highlights include: yoga/bootcamp instructors attending on site; a quarterly mental health presentation on a different topic each quarter; advice being sought from the ACT Nutrition Support Service on advice for planning; tip sheets on managing day-to-day stresses; a presentation from ‘Next Step’; and nicotine replacement therapy available to staff.  Well done Kingsford Smith School!!
